Wolfburn Aurora Sherry
The Wolfburn Aurora is matured in 3 different casks: refill casks, first-fill bourbon casks and first-fill oloroso sherry hogsheads.
The three components are intended to produce a sweet whiskey with hints of spice. Wolfburn is a relatively new whiskey from Thurso, the north of Scotland. Wolfburn was founded in 1821 by William Smith and owes its name in part to the nearby river. Nobody knows how the river got its name, but it is known that there was a wolf population living in this northern part of Scotland in 1500.
The Wolfburn logo is designed by Konrad Gesner, a 16th century zoologist who depicts a sea wolf with his drawing. The sea wolf would have lived both in the sea and on land, the animal would also bring good luck to those who could see the beauty in the animal.
Wolfburn is traditionally distilled in a pot still with un-peated malt. Shane Fraser is no stranger, the man started at Royal Lochnagar Distillery at the age of 17, spent 3 years at Oban, became production manager at J&G Grant and worked on the Glenfarclas range. Wolfburn has a beautiful website that will make your mouth water.
