The Vioneers Orpheus and Raven Silke 2019
Wine in very limited edition - 3500 bottles!
The grape blend is of course classic Bordelais - a quintet of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec but also clearly smells like a Bordeaux, curiously aromatic mainly dominated by both Cabernets and certainly the Cabernet Franc, with impressions of scrub, graphite , liquorice, laurel liquorice, but also espresso and lots of ripe black fruit.
The taste translates all these aromas identically, with especially a nice fruit heart full of black/red cherries and blueberries, a cloud of liquorice, a still clearly spicy cedar impact in this phase and muscular but not too intrusive tannins. The 14% alcohol mainly ensures a meaty body. In short, a wine that effortlessly still has a cellar future for three years, but already forms the perfect sparring partner with, among other things, partridge, roast beef, Black Angus beef, roast duck breast, beef stroganoff, matured sirloin steak, leg of lamb, pulled pork, ragout or lamb tagine.. This excellent wine is a tribute to daughter Silke of our wine importer Peter & Annick De Leeuw, who died much too early. The sale of this wine is for the benefit of VZW Clementina in Zemst
