Von Blumen Lagrein 2020
Grape variety Lagrein
About the winery With years of experience at Roeno under their belt, Roberta, Cristina and Giuseppe Fugatti founded the Von Blumen project in 2013. They are keen to work in the northern Alto Adige alongside their work at Roeno. They start with 10 hectares of vineyards in Pochi di Salorno, south of Bolzano, in the southernmost tip of Alto Adige - Italy's northernmost region. Alto Adige is mountainous and vineyards are at high altitudes, in Von Blumen's case between 480 and 600 metres on steep slopes.
Vineyard and region The grapes come from the area around Pochi di Salorno, in the Alto Adige region of northern Italy. The vineyards are slightly lower in the valley, as Lagrein ripens better in areas that are not too high. The grapes are picked by hand
Vinification The grapes are first gently crushed and then destemmed. The grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature while the juice is in contact with the skins. The wine is pumped over daily for more flavour and colour extraction. The wine is then aged for several more months in large wooden barrels.
Colour Deep and intense ruby red.
Scent Intense notes of cherries. Blueberry, tea, pine and bay leaf.
Taste Very fruity wine with a pleasant, soft tannic structure. Subtle spicy notes.
Serve with Delicious with porchetta (an Italian pork belly roast).
Serving temperature 16-17 °C
