Grape variety Cabernet
About the winery The Bemberg family has selected its very best single vineyards for a special series of wines under the name La Linterna. The selected vineyards are spread from the north to the south of the Andes. Each wine is a precise translation of the microterroir of that place. The wines received very high scores immediately upon their first launch.
Vineyard and region Originating from the Finca Los Chañares vineyard, which is located at 1,950 meters above sea level. This vineyard is located in the province of Catamarca. The soil consists of limestone and large rocks, with sand. The vineyard was planted in 2000.

Awards "The 2017 La Linterna Cabernet Sauvignon Finca Las Mercedes Parcela N° 19 has lower alcohol, 14.2%, and mellow acidity coming through as varietal, powerful, concentrated but balanced. It fermented with indigenous yeasts in concrete vats and matured in new but lightly toasted 300-liter oak barrels (in the future they'll move to 500-liter ones) for 18 months. Despite the oak regime selected, the wine doesn't come through as oaky; it's intensely varietal with herbal and spicy notes, juicy and round, with fine tannins and a long, serious and dry finish. Classical and very good. -Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

" This has aromas of ripe blackberries, blackcurrant leaves, thyme, dark chocolate, walnuts and tobacco. Full body with firm, finely knit tannins and a flavorful core of dark fruit. Excellent varietal character and fruit concentration." -James Suckling

"The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon La Linterna Finca Las Mercedes, Parcela 19, from Cafayate, Calchaquí Valley, was aged for 18 months in barrels and foudres. Garnet red in hue. The vivid nose presents notes of chili and roasted red pepper, spice, camphor and candied tomato. Potent on the palate with firm tannins, the flow is free and energetic. A characterful wine." - Vinous

"Finely developed, figs, blackberries, leather tobacco, espresso. Very intense, powerful but fresh, nice tannin, still reserve." - 5/5 stars, Press wine about the 2015 vintage

"Fermented in big oak vats. A little darker than the Pedernal Malbec. Riper and sweeter on the nose plus a more savory note – and yet opens to a hint of floral. Tannins are more chewy, freshness is still prevalent but all in all a more powerful and slightly less elegant wine." - 17/20, Jancis Robinson on the 2013 vintage
